We measure length, width, instep and arch on both feet, then adjust the pattern and last so each shoe fits its own foot rather than a standard size chart.

We measure both feet standing and seated, noting length, width, arch and any pressure points, and record everything in your personal fitting file.

We agree the design, materials and sole, then give you a written quote with price and an estimated completion date before any work begins.

Making and fitting

Our craftsmen cut, stitch and last your shoes. Where possible you try them before final finishing so we can fine-tune the fit.

Collection and aftercare

Collect from the showroom or choose island-wide delivery. We explain how to care for the materials and remain available for adjustments.

What custom and bespoke mean at Nylex

We use two levels of personalisation. Custom means taking one of our existing styles and changing elements such as the size, width, colour, leather, lining or sole. Bespoke means building a pair from your own design brief and individual measurements, with the pattern adjusted specifically for your feet. Both are made in our workshop in Port Louis by the same team that produces our everyday men's and women's collections.

The right choice depends on your feet and your timeline. A custom version of a proven model is usually quicker and more predictable. A fully bespoke pair gives you more freedom but needs more time for pattern work and fitting.

Wedding and occasion shoes

Weddings in Mauritius often involve several events, long days and a mix of indoor and outdoor venues, sometimes on grass or sand. We help couples and families choose shoes that look right in photos and still feel comfortable after hours of standing and dancing.

Tip: Start the conversation early, ideally several weeks before the event. Bring the outfit or a fabric sample so we can match colours in natural light, and allow time to wear the shoes at home before the big day.

Special sizes and comfort adjustments

Our standard ranges cover men's sizes 38 to 47 and ladies' sizes 35 to 45, but even within those numbers many people struggle to find a good fit. Very wide or narrow feet, a large difference between left and right foot, a high instep or bunions can all make ready-made shoes uncomfortable.

On request we can add depth for a removable orthotic, widen the toe box, soften or pad the heel counter, lower a heel or choose a more cushioned sole. These are practical construction changes, not medical treatment. If you have a diagnosed foot condition, please bring any recommendations from your doctor or podiatrist so we can follow them as closely as the design allows. Every custom order is priced individually because materials, construction and the amount of pattern work vary. You receive a clear quote before we start, and the estimated completion date is confirmed at the same time. Simple modifications typically take less time than a fully bespoke pair, and busy wedding seasons can add to waiting times, so early booking helps.

It depends on the style and how much pattern work is needed. Modifying one of our existing models is typically quicker than a fully bespoke design, and busy wedding periods can add time. We confirm an estimated completion date in your written quote, so please contact us as early as possible if you have a fixed event date.

Can you make shoes for orthopaedic needs?

We can make practical adjustments such as extra depth for an orthotic, a wider toe box, softer linings or a lower heel. We are shoemakers, not medical professionals, so we do not diagnose conditions. If you have advice from a doctor or podiatrist, bring it along and we will follow it as closely as the chosen design allows.

Can I bring my own design or a photo?

Yes. Photos, sketches and screenshots are a great starting point. We will explain which details can be reproduced, suggest suitable materials and let you know if anything needs to change for comfort or durability. We only make original interpretations and cannot copy protected brand logos or trademarks.

How much do bespoke shoes cost?

Prices are calculated for each order because leather, sole, decoration and construction vary a lot. After your consultation we give you a written quote in Mauritian rupees, and nothing is made until you approve it. We accept cash, card, PayPal and bank transfer.
